B&W retro puzzle-platformer for PC
GET OUT is a free puzzle game made by MZY Games for PC devices. It is a 2D platformer that utilizes retro-style graphics. In it, players will attempt to escape a maze-like dungeon by solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles they encounter on their way out.
GET OUT has a similar style of gameplay to games like Lazr or Deepest Sword. What makes it stand out, though, is its use of a black and white color scheme that gives it a rather distinct look and presentation. What's more, players will also get to fight enemies using various weapons.
How do I play it?
The first thing that will strike you when you first start playing GET OUT is its black and white motif that is prevalent throughout the game. Everything from your character to enemies, and level designs are rendered in 2bit style graphics. In it, you get to explore a big open map filled with enemy robots to defeat, puzzles to solve, and obstacles to overcome in order to progress further.
As you dive deeper into the level, enemies you defeat will reward you with coins. There are even treasure chests scattered everything for you to discover and gain more coins or unique weapons to defeat your enemies with. There will also be various NPCs that will give you prizes for finding them or will give new items in exchange for coins you collect along the way.
One important thing to take note of, though, is that the game has stopped development for quite a while now, with its developer calling it "abandonware". As such, you will be limited to playing only one level that also serves as its demo of sorts. GET OUT's source code and all of its other development tools are available for purchase if you want to continue its development yourself.
A fun and unique game that could have been more
All in all, the ideas and concepts that were implemented in GET OUT were interesting and made its gameplay fun and unique. Not to mention, the black and white motif is not something that you see in these types of games all the often. It's a shame then that it has stopped development, but here's to hoping someone else picks up the MZY Games left off.
